Corporate statement for VMware in combination with Exact Software's products

Exact Software recognizes the trend towards more hardware virtualization. VMware is one of such virtual server solutions. When using VMware, each Virtual Machine is a complete system encapsulated in a set of software files. As can be seen in the picture below, each Virtual Machine runs on its own operating system (i.e. Windows 2003 server). For Exact Globe and Exact Synergy this means that, as long as these applications run on that specific operating system, they also run on that same operating system in a Virtual Machine.
The use of VMware Server version 1.0.4 was tested on Exact Globe and Exact
Synergy release 381 and Exact Synergy Enterprise release 220, in combination
with Windows Server 2003 and Office 2003. The SQL databaseserver is not part of
the virtualized environment, so both SQL Server 2000 and 2005 can be used. This
test was successful which means that the scenario's below are fully supported:
Regarding the question whether Exact Software supports running it's product lines Exact Globe and Exact Synergy on VMware
in other combinations and scenario's, our corporate statement is as follows:
We are aware that, at this moment, several of our customers already run Exact Globe and Exact Synergy on VMware successfully. At this moment, there are no indications that virtualization using VMware has a negative influence on the operation of our products. On the other hand, Exact Software has not tested Exact Globe or Exact Synergy on VMware thoroughly in its QA labs
in scenario's other than the scenario's mentioned earlier in this announcement.
As long as VMware has not been thoroughly tested in our QA labs to prepare for the official support
of other scenario's, we collaborate with our customers to jointly solve issues that might arise. In case customers use VMware and report problems to Exact Software which seem related to VMware, Exact Software will try, in close cooperation and together with the customer, to find a solution.
This announcement applies to Exact Globe and Exact Synergy (Enterprise).
