Creating and maintaining master production schedules

Introduction

You can enter production planning or forecast by items in the Master Production Schedule (MPS) at Manufacturing ➔ Planning ➔ Master Production Schedule. After defining the search criteria, click Start to open the Master Production Schedule screen.

The objective of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) is to plan and control materials and capacity of resources to meet production demands. The MPS defines the number of end items that need to be produced within a certain period based on a forecast. The MPS is also used to calculate expected material requirements to meet the production schedule.

After the date range of the MPS has expired, it is advisable to compare the production planning and production order history. This enables you to check whether the expectations have actually been realized. Planners can use this as a tool to plan for production requirements for a new period.

Fields

You can filter the MPS for items that you want to plan or forecast for. To filter, you can define one or more of the search criteria. The items that match the search criteria you have entered are then displayed.

Warehouse

By default, this cannot be modified as it is the predefined criteria from Manufacturing ➔ Planning ➔ Master Production Schedule. The MPS you create will be the MPS for all items in this warehouse. Items can be used and/or stored in different warehouses. This also means that the demand for different items can vary per warehouse.

Date

By default, this cannot be modified as it is the predefined criteria from Manufacturing ➔ Planning ➔ Master Production Schedule. The MPS you create will be the MPS for all items valid within this date range.

Budget scenario

By default, this cannot be modified as it is the predefined criteria from Manufacturing ➔ Planning ➔ Master Production Schedule. The MPS is then created according to this budget scenario. This enables you to simulate, in several ways, when a certain amount of items will be required (What-if analysis).

Cost center

Type or select a cost center to create a production plan for this cost center. This is mandatory.

Debtor
