This will guide you in converting the data from Exact Synergy to Exact Synergy Enterprise with Unicode format. In order to execute a full migration of the data, the following steps must be fulfilled accordingly:
1. Installation of Exact Synergy Enterprise and its related components. For more details see, Exact Synergy Enterprise: Installation Manual
2. Data conversion
3. First start-up of Exact Synergy Enterprise and database upgrade
Once Exact Synergy Enterprise is successfully installed, you can proceed to Step 2: Data Conversion.
This will refer to the new version as Exact Synergy Enterprise. The previous version will be referred to as Exact Synergy.
There are two main chapters here, namely 1.3 Simple Data Conversion and 1.4 Advanced Data Conversion.
Chapter 1.3 Simple Data Conversion will guide you in converting a single Exact Synergy database where the individual conversion steps can be executed at once.
If you are converting large database, see Chapter 1.4 Advanced Data Conversion.
Before you begin the data conversion, there are a few steps you need to do to ensure a successful migration:
· You need to ensure that the current version of your Exact Synergy is version 372 or higher.
· You need to back up your database. Ensure also that the backup copy of your database can be restored.
· The data conversion program can only be executed on a computer where Exact Synergy Enterprise is installed. Your computer must also have the access rights to connect to the database. Typically this is one of your web servers.
· Only an active Exact Synergy Enterprise user with the Administrator role at a Corporate level is able to perform the migration.
· Ascertain the location of the program in your computer. For example, C:\Program Files\Synergy. This directory will later be referred to as <Exact_Synergy _installation_folder>.
· As data conversion is a heavy process and requires exclusive access to your database, you must not to perform any other tasks in Exact Synergy Enterprise during this process.
For some entities, the structure and usage of Exact Synergy Enterprise is different from Exact Synergy, hence a data conversion is necessary. For example, when operating a web portal via Exact Synergy Enterprise, the hyperlinks for documents may look like this: BDDocument.asp?Action=View&ID={FDBF9FB4-E64E-46D0-B96C-B938F1524E38}. In this scenario, three conversions are required. The “BDDocument” needs to be replaced with “DocView”, the “.asp” needs to be replaced with “.aspx”, and the parameters of the application will need to be updated.
This procedure will allows you to convert the Exact Synergy database to Exact Synergy Enterprise with Unicode format in single step. To convert large database in multiple steps, see 1.4 Advanced Data Conversion.
1. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button, and then click Run. You will see the following screen:
2. Type <Exact_Synergy_installation_folder>\bin\ExactDBConvert.exe at Open and click OK. You will see the following screen:

3. Click Get DB Info to read the database connection parameters of your first database used in the Exact Synergy environment. Next, select the database that you want to convert at Database.
4. Next, click Connect to connect to the database. If the connection is successful, you will see the following screen. Select the Exclude log tables check box to exclude the conversion of bacoapplog and xmlevents database tables.
5. To start the conversion, click Start. You will see the progress of the conversion as shown in the following screen:
Under the Conversion section, you will see the connection details. The Clean up, Conversion, and Optimize tabs display the status of the actions. The bottom part of the screen displays the progress bar according to each task. If you click Stop before the task is completed, you will need to restore your backup database prior to the conversion.

When the message “Close” is displayed and the progress bar displays the message “Finished: Cleanup – Conversion – Optimize”, the data conversion is successfully executed.
6. Click Close to exit. The Exact Synergy Enterprise database is now ready for the first start-up.
There is an advanced method in data conversion. However, you should not use this method on a converted database. As the steps in 1.3 Simple Data Conversion are simpler to use, it is advisable to follow it if it meets your requirements. The advanced data conversion allows you to convert the Exact Synergy database in multiple steps
When you operate more than one database per Exact Synergy environment, you can determine the database to be converted. The syntax is as follows:
ExactDBConvert.exe /S:<database_server> /D:<database_name> /M: Single
Example:
C:\Program Files\Synergy\Bin\ExactDBConvert.exe /S:NLSQL1751 /D:SynergyProduction /M:Single
To run the advanced conversion, follow the steps 1 and 4 as per the simple mode. However, use the command line with the advanced options as in the example above.
Note: You are required to perform Card URL Links Conversion, Settings - Accounts, Settings - Resource, Recode - Item, Convert Settings, SQL Data Repair, Search Template Conversion and URL Conversion (not in any specific conversion order) before proceeding to Unicode compliant conversion described in step 4 above. You are required to repeat steps for each of the parameters.

A detailed conversion log can be found in the usr subfolder of the Exact Synergy Enterprise installation folder. The naming of the log file is Conversion_<database_server>_<database_name>_<yyyymmdd>_<hhmm>.log
