Maintaining free fields

Introduction

Free fields are the extra fields provided for you to include additional information about your master data. With this flexibility, you can change the description of the free fields according to your needs. As such, you can apply a label to the free field and include extra information based on the label of the free field. In addition, you can label the free fields in several languages depending on the license that you are using.

What version are you using?

The information in this document is applicable to product update 407 and higher. If you have versions lower than this, certain features explained here will not be applicable.

How do I view the free fields?

  1. In the main screen of Exact Globe Next, click on the menu path stated to display the available free fields according to its table.
  2. Select the required table of free fields at the Table field. The list of descriptions, column names, and customized words will be displayed in the Description, Column name, and Customise columns respectively.

How do I create and modify the free fields?

  1. In the overview of free fields at the Language field, select the required language from the drop-down list.
  2. Then, choose the required table to be displayed at the Table field. The list of descriptions, column names, and customized words will be displayed in the Description, Column name, and Customise columns respectively.
  3. Select the field that you want to customize and click Open. A Terms screen will be displayed.
  4. Fill in the Customise field and click Save. The additional detail will be displayed in the Customise column automatically.
  5. Click Close to exit.

How do I configure the free fields?

  1. In the Free fields screen, click on the Configuration button. A Free fields Configuration screen will be displayed.
  2. In the screen, click on the required check boxes in the Predefined columns to set the predefined values for the free fields.
  3. A Predefines screen will be displayed.
  4. You can type a predefined value at each row in the Predefined column. The predefined values must be based on the permitted length and scale for the different data types of the free fields where applicable.
  5. Click Save to save the predefined values or Close to exit without saving the changes made.
  6. After saving, a green check mark will be displayed for the particular free field in the Predefined column.
  7. Click Close to exit.

How do I delete the free fields?

  1. Select the required free field.
  2. Click Delete to remove the field.
  3. Click Close to exit.
