The following are formulas adopted in absence entitlement calculations with scenarios that can help you understand the calculations better.
Entitlement calculation in days based on working days
Yearly Entitlement
Resource’s total working days in a year/division’s total working days in a year * yearly entitlement
For example:
Gerard works from Monday to Thursday for 8 hours per day, but on Friday, he works for 4 hours. His entitlement is 30 days per annum. The calculation is as follows: 261/261 * 30 = 30 days per annum.
Monthly Entitlement
Yearly entitlement/12
For example:
Gerard’s company generates entitlement on a monthly basis. Therefore, the entitlement generated for Gerard is 2.5 days per month. The calculation is as follows: 30/12 = 2.5 days.
If Gerard works for less than a year and decides to leave the company on 22 December 2009, then the entitlement generated is 1.74 days per month. The calculation is as follows: 16/23 * 2.5 = 1.74 days.
Note: Resource total working days and division total working days in a year may vary from year to year, and working days will not include off days (annual leave, medical leave, etc.) and rest days (public holidays and designated off days by the company such as Saturday/Sunday) defined at the resource or division schedule.
Entitlement calculation in days based on calendar days
Yearly Entitlement
Resource’s total working days in a year/calendar year * yearly entitlement
For example:
Hugh works from Monday to Thursday for 8 hours per day, but on Friday, he works for 4 hours. His entitlement is 21.45 days per annum. The calculation is as follows: 261/365 * 30 = 21.45 per annum.
Monthly Entitlement
Yearly entitlement/12
For example:
Hugh’s company generates entitlement on a monthly basis. Therefore, the entitlement generated for Gerard is 1.79 days per month. The calculation is as follows: 21.45/12 = 1.79 days per month.
If Hugh works for less than a year and decides to leave the company on 22 December 2009, then the entitlement generated is 0.92 days per month. The calculation is as follows: 16/31 * 1.79 = 0.92 days.

Alex applies for leave from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on a Wednesday. The system will deduct 0.5 days from his absence entitlement. The absence deduction for Wednesday 10.00 am to 12.00 pm (shown in days) is as follows: 2/4 = 0.5 days.

Absences deduction calculated in days * division’s hour per day
For example:
Alex applies for leave from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on a Wednesday. The system will deduct 0.5 days from his absence entitlement. The absence deduction for Wednesday 10.00 am to 12.00 pm (shown in hours) is as follows: 0.5 * 8 = 4 hours.
Absence deductions for entitlement calculation based on calendar days
If a request is created on the resource’s off day (non-work day) or rest day (a fixed and designated non-work day by the country or company), the absence deduction is 1 day. Absence deductions that fall on a public holiday will be based on the settings at the division card.
