System Manual - Package introduction

Package introduction

The contents of this section

In this section, you will find a general overview of the system software process in Exact Financials.

Using the system software

The sequence of sections in this manual is in general the sequence in which steps should or can be performed. Some of the steps can be performed in a different order, or they can be skipped if you do not want to use the functionality concerned. This applies specifically to subjects that are not directly related to the core of Exact System like printing and how to work in foreign languages.

Creating a company

Before you can actually start using Exact, you need to create a company. A company is the unit containing your accounting information. If you need to create multiple companies with similar settings, you can copy companies.

Defining settings

A demo company is supplied with the Exact Financials software, which you can use to try out various settings. There is a difference between company settings, which apply to the whole company, and user settings, which apply only to a particular user, regardless of the company used. Examples of company settings are the period-date table and bank account types. Examples of user settings are printers and language. Both company settings and user settings are described in this manual.

Before you can use your company, you will also need to define package settings and enter master data. Package settings are settings for the various packages you have. VAT settings are examples of Exact Finance package settings and OTC settings are examples of Exact Sales package settings. Examples of master data are general ledger accounts and debtor/creditor information. See your package manuals for more information.

Additional information

When you have created the company and defined the package settings and the user settings, you can start using your Exact Financials packages. This manual also contains information on some general topics, which are not dealt with in the package manuals.
