How-to: Automatic installation of WCF Data Services 5.0 in Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise

Introduction

The Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0 release is shipped with Exact Globe Next product update 406 and Exact Synergy Enterprise product update 251 onwards, to facilitate the automatic installation of Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0 in Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise. With this additional feature, when you update to Exact Globe Next (product update 406 and above) or Exact Synergy Enterprise (product update 251 and above), the Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0 component will be installed automatically in the system.

Previously, in order to access the mobile services provided in the Exact Synergy Enterprise environment, users had to download and install Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0 separately. For more information, see How-to: Setting up Service management mobile (iPad) application environment.

Description

The automatic installation of Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0 is supported by:

  • Exact Globe Next
  • Exact Synergy Enterprise
  • Exact Globe Next with extended functionality
  • standalone MSI installation

The following section of this document explains the installation procedures for Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0 in Exact Globe Next, Exact Synergy Enterprise, Exact Globe Next with extended functionality, and standalone MSI installation of Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise.

Installation of WCF Data Services 5.0 in Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise

In the case of Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise, when you run the Product Updater, the system will check whether the WCF Data Services 5.0 component is installed through the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft WCF Data Services\5.0] with version 5.0.51212.0. If the component does not exist, the system will download the WCF Data Services 5.0 Installer (WcfDataServices.exe) into the CAB folder (located at the installation directory of the Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise) and it will run the WCF Data Services 5.0 Installer automatically, as shown in the following:

The automatic installation screen of the WCF Data Services 5.0 component is displayed in the following:

Note: This method applies only to the installation methods, such as Internet Workstation Installation, LAN Workstation Installation, LAN Workstation Update, and CD Workstation Installation. However, in the case of other installation methods, such as Internet Network Installation, Internet Network Installation Update, Creation of CD Installation, and CD Network Installation, the system will download the WCF Data Services 5.0 Installer into the CAB folder.

Installation of WCF Data Services 5.0 in Exact Globe Next with extended functionality

In the case of Exact Globe Next with extended functionality, when you run the Setup Wizard, the system will check whether the WCF Data Service 5.0 component is installed through the registry key, in the same way as explained for the Product Updater (for Exact Synergy Enterprise and Exact Globe Next). If the component does not exist, the system will extract the WCF Data Service 5.0 Installer (WcfDataServices.exe) from the MSI or MSP file into the CAB folder (located at the installation directory of the Exact Globe Next) and it will run automatically at the end of the Exact Globe Next installation.

The automatic installation of the WCF Data Services 5.0 component is displayed in the following:

Installation of WCF Data Services 5.0 in standalone MSI installation of Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise

If you have downloaded the MSI installation file from the MSI download page and launched Exact Globe Next or Exact Synergy Enterprise manually, then the system will download the WCF Data Service 5.0 installer (WcfDataServices.exe) into the CAB folder (located at the installation directory of the Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise). The downloaded component will not be installed automatically. Here, you need to run the WcfDataServices.exe file in the CAB folder, manually. When you are downloading the MSI/MSP installation files through the MSI download page, either with the full installation or update option, you will be prompted with the following message:

If there are any existing messages on other components, these will be appended to the existing message, as shown in the following screen:
