Introduction
This document describes the scanner settings for E-WMS Stock Transfers, in menu
System, E-WMS, Scanners,
Stock transfer settings. The screenshots and functionality is
based on product update 413.
Description
Once scanner settings are defined, these need to
be assigned to each device in menu System, E-WMS,
Scanners, Scanners. You can use one general settings profile for all
devices, or you can set up specific profiles per individual device. Please also read document
General notes on scanner settings.
After selecting menu System,
E-WMS, Scanners, Stock transfer settings you can create a new
profile by pressing New, or edit an existing profile by using Open. You can only
delete profiles which are not linked to devices. The settings are applied in WMS
ASP and in the outdated 'CAB' scanner client, unless otherwise stated.

Section: Submenu
These settings are available from product update
408. You can enable or disable one or more of the transfer submenus on the scanner. If
more than one submenu is enabled, these submenus will first show on the scanner after selecting main menu
'Transfers'. When only one of these submenus is enabled, this submenu will be
immediately started when choosing main menu 'Transfers'.
When SKU Management is enabled, menu 'Transfer to one' is shown as 'Repack to'
on the scanner and in this settings screen.
When all submenus are disabled, you will see error message 'Please select at
least one of the options in section 'submenu''.
Section: General
The order of the settings in this section changed slightly in release 412.
Default reference
You can enter a default reference for transfers. By creating
different settings profiles for different scanners, you can apply unique
references per hand terminal. This reference is visible on the scanner and on
the item card, after processing the transfer.
Display which value?
Refers to 'Default reference'. This setting determines if and how
the reference field will be prefilled on the hand terminal;
- Default value: the reference is prefilled with the 'default reference', and can still be changed on the hand terminal
- Never: the reference is prefilled with the 'default reference' and input of reference is skipped (automatically applied)
- Empty: the reference is empty and can be entered on the hand terminal, or be left empty
If you are not using a reference, then clear the
'default reference' and set 'display which value' to 'never'.
Focus to
ASP only. After transferring an item, it can be more
efficient to return to either the 'location' field or to the 'item code' field
(on the same location).
- Item code: after you finished transferring an item, the input returns to 'item code', on the same source location as before.
- Location: after you finished transferring an item, the input returns to 'location'.
When scanning serial/batch items, the focus always first returns to input of the
'S/B number' after completing a scan. When pressing the STOP button on input of
the S/B number, then this setting is applied.
Screen layout
ASP and WMSclient only. Please read
this document for more information on 'screen layout'.
Multi-user issues
This setting is available from release
410 for E-WMS ASP and enables the possibility to issue stock in scanner menu 'Transfer
from', to be received by someone else. You can find more information in
this document.
The setting is only enabled when the WMS Transfers
setting 'multi-user transfers' is enabled.
You have following choices:
- No (default value):
transfers scanned and issued in scanner menu 'Transfer from' can only be
received by the same person (scanner logon) in menu 'Transfer to' or
'Transfer to one'
- Yes: transfers scanned and issued in
scanner menu 'Transfer from' can be received on any scanner for which the
setting 'Multi-user receipts' is enabled, in menu 'Transfer to' or 'Transfer
to one'
- Ask user: when finishing a transfer issue
in menu 'Transfer from', following question is shown on the scanner:
When answering 'Yes', the transfer can be received by any scanner, where the setting 'Multi-user receipts' is enabled
When answering 'No', the transfer can only be received by the same scanner
user
Multi-user receipts
This setting is available from release
410 for E-WMS ASP and enables the possibility to receive transferred stock issued by
someone else, in scanner menu 'Transfer to' or 'Transfer to one'. You can find
more information in
this document.
The setting is only enabled when the WMS Transfers
setting 'multi-user transfers' is enabled.
You have following choices:
- No: the scanner user can only receive transfers issued on the
same scanner in menu 'Transfer from'
- Yes: the scanner user can receive any stock
previous issues as 'multi-user issue' in scanner menu 'Transfer from'
Default SKU scan mode
This setting is available per release
409 for E-WMS ASP, and applies to SKU Management and free scanning process only. Determines the default value of the
'SKU scan toggle', which defines whether a SKU is by default issued as a whole, or only
part of a SKU is issued (entry of quantity).
- SKU: no input of
quantity after scanning a SKU number (unless scanner setting 'Focus to next
field' is enabled, then all fields are to be confirmed)
- Units: input of quantity is always required
This document provides more information on the SKU scan unit toggle.
Accept external SKU
ASP and for SKU Management only, available from
product update 405. This setting is applied in 'repacking', hand terminal menu
Transfers, Repack to. Determines if you are working with SKU numbers
generated and printed from E-WMS, or whether you accept external SKU numbers.
You can read more about external SKU numbers in
this document.
Show stock button
ASP only. Determines whether the hand terminal
user is allowed to view
item stock on the hand terminal.
Section: Bar code
Scanning combination
Please read
this document for more details about 'scanning combination'.
Dividing character
Please read
this document for more details on 'scanning combination' and 'dividing
character'..
Use EAN128
When enabled,
EAN128 decoding will be started for
any scanned value. Disable this setting when you do not use EAN128 bar codes.
Please also read:
how to activate EAN128 barcode scanning in WMS ASP and in
WMS CAB.
Focus to next field
ASP only.
Please read
this document for more information on this setting. This setting is
available in this screen from release
409, in earlier releases this was a
general
scanner setting.
Show barcode summary
Available from product update 404 (ASP and for
WMS client only). When enabled, a summary screen will show (in which you
have to press Enter or OK) after a scan, when otherwise you would have moved to
the next transaction screen immediately. This way you still have a
confirmation of what you scanned, before the next scan screen is shown. Typically,
this will be the case when you have disabled the setting 'Focus
to next field' and scanning a SKU number, or an EAN128 or HIBC bar code.
Please also see
this document for more information on this setting.
Section: Warehouse
Default source warehouse
You are able to configure a default 'source'
warehouse for transfers. This can be efficient when you only have one warehouse
and only are scanning location transfers, or when a specific warehouse employee
is only scanning transfers from one specific warehouse. In the latter case, you
can define and link unique 'transfer settings' profiles per hand terminal user.
You can select a specific warehouse or leave this
value empty.
Display which value?
This setting determines how the 'source warehouse'
field on the hand terminal is prefilled:
- Default value: the warehouse field is prefilled with 'Default source warehouse' and can still be changed on the hand terminal
- Never: the warehouse field is prefilled with 'Default source warehouse' and input on the hand terminal is skipped
- Empty: the warehouse field is not prefilled and has to be entered or scanned.
Default target warehouse
You are able to configure a default 'target'
warehouse for transfers. This can be efficient when you only have one warehouse
and when you are scanning only location transfers, or when a specific warehouse employee
is only scanning transfers to one specific warehouse. In the latter case, you
can define and link unique 'transfer settings' profiles per hand terminal user.
You can select a specific warehouse or leave this
value empty.
Display which value?
This setting determines how the 'target warehouse'
field on the hand terminal is prefilled:
- Default value: the warehouse field is prefilled with 'Default target warehouse' and can still be changed on the hand terminal
- Never: the warehouse field is prefilled with 'Default target warehouse' and input on the hand terminal is skipped
- Empty: the warehouse field is not prefilled and has to be entered or scanned.
- Previous: the warehouse field is prefilled with the last used warehouse within the same transfer transaction (available from 406, ASP only)
Section: Location
Default source location
You are able to configure a default source location
for transfers. This can be efficient when a specific warehouse employee is only
scanning one type of transfer (for example, transferring just produced items
into the warehouse). In the latter case, you can define and link unique
'transfer settings' profiles per hand terminal user.
You can enter a specific location, or leave this
value empty. The location is not validated at this time, because this location
could be intended for any warehouse.
Display which value?
This setting determines how the 'source location'
field on the hand terminal is prefilled:
- Default value: the source location field is prefilled with 'Default source location' and can still be changed on the hand terminal
- Never: the source location field is prefilled with 'Default source location' and input on the hand terminal is skipped
- Empty: the source location field is not prefilled and has to be entered or scanned.
Default target location
You are able to configure a default target location
for transfers. You can enter a specific location, or leave this value empty. The
location is not validated at this time, because this location could be intended
for any warehouse.
Display which value?
This setting determines how the 'target location'
field on the hand terminal is prefilled:
- Default value: the target location field is prefilled with 'Default target location' and can still be changed on the hand terminal
- Never: the target location field is prefilled with 'Default target location' and input on the hand terminal is skipped
- Empty: the target location field is not prefilled and has to be entered or scanned.
- Previous: the target location field is prefilled with the last used target location within the same transfer transaction (available from 406, ASP only)
Note: when
Directed Put Away (DPA) is enabled, the DPA advice will always have priority
over this setting (ASP only).
Section: Item
Default value
You can configure a default item code to be used for
transfers. Select an item code or leave this setting empty.
Display which value?
This setting determines how the item code field is
prefilled in transfers;
- Default value: the item code is prefilled with the configured 'default value', and can still be changed on the hand terminal
- Never (CAB only): the item code is prefilled with the configured 'default value', and can not be changed anymore on the hand terminal
- Empty: the item code is not prefilled (best choice for common scenarios) and has to be scanned
Warning on S/B status
This setting, available from release
413, allows you to show warnings when
transferring an expired or blocked batch. The setting has following choices:
- No: no warning (default value)
- Expired or blocked: show a warning when the
scanned batch is expired or blocked
- Expired: show a warning when the scanned
batch is expired. No warning is shown when scanning a blocked (and not
expired) batch.
- Blocked: show a warning when the scanned
batch is blocked. No warning is shown when scanning an expired (and not
blocked) batch.
As a result, one of following messages can show when scanning transfers:
Section: Quantity
Default quantity
Prefills the quantity field on the hand
terminal with this value, when the quantity is not prefilled from a scan like an
EAN128 bar code. The default value is 1 (from 405, the default will be zero).. Change this value to 0 if you want to
avoid just pressing 'Enter' in the process too quickly, while using
quantity 1.
Minimum quantity
This setting determines the minimum
quantity allowed to enter on the hand terminal. This setting is intended to
avoid errors on the hand terminal.
Maximum quantity
This setting determines the maximum
quantity allowed to enter on the hand terminal. This setting is intended to
avoid errors on the hand terminal, like scanning the item code in the quantity
field by mistake.
Section: Active sync
These settings only apply when using the E-WMS
CAB client with cradled or USB communication, where it may not always be
possible or desired to have item master data available on the hand terminal.
Serial/batch
This setting determines how to handle input of
the serial/batch number in general. When validation of item codes was disabled and there is no item master data on the hand
terminal, it can not be determined if an item is a serial/batch item or
not. Using this setting, you can still configure if you want to enter
serial/batch number for transfers, using following choices:
- Normal (default value): serial/batch number entry is disabled (you never scan serial/batch items)
- Serial: assumes you are always transfer serial number items (entry of serial number per single unit, but can be left empty)
- Batch: assumes you are always transfer batch items (entry of batch number, but can be left empty)
Validate item code
This setting determines if you want to validate a
scanned item code (or scan code) during the transfer, or only after reading back.
When disabled, any item code (not: scan codes) can be scanned during the
transfer
(existing or not), this also means you do not have to export item master data to
the hand terminals. After reading back a transfer, the item code is still
validated (but then scan codes are not converted to item codes).
When enabled, the scanned item code or scan code is validated on the hand
terminal, using the master data previously exported to the hand terminal (menu
WMS, Send, Send item data).
Browse items
This setting determines if the warehouse employee is
able to browse in item master data, thus able to select an item from the list,
instead of scanning an item code.
Enter quantity
When disabled, input of quantity is
skipped, and the quantity configured in 'Default quantity' is applied
automatically.
