Fixed Assets Manual - Assembling assets
Assembling assets
If you want to treat assets that belong together as a unit, you should establish a link between these assets. This is called assembling or linking assets. Assembling assets as entities makes it possible to look at the book value of the assets which belong to this entity at a single glance. Each entity is defined as a parent asset to which several (sub)assets are linked. If you have indicated during creating asset sets that you want to assemble assets within this set, you can then indicate if you want to create a parent asset or a 'regular' asset when creating an asset. By linking assets to the parent asset, you have defined an entity. You can also link an entity to another entity. This procedure makes it possible to look at both the book value of the entity as a whole and the book value of the underlying entity.
Maintain assembled assets in: [Assets: Master data, Maintenance, Assets, Assembled assets].
The assembling of entities will make sure that if one asset within the entity is selected for depreciation, all assets within the entity are depreciated simultaneously. It is possible to link assets of different asset sets to one entity, provided that the asset set which belongs to the asset is marked as an assembled asset set in asset sets' maintenance.
- Assembled assets within a defined entity are automatically depreciated simultaneously.
