How-to: Configuring Synergy Office Integration for new Microsoft Outlook
As announced by Microsoft, the new Microsoft Outlook is available to users from August 1, 2024. The new Outlook is launched as an opt-in. This will be followed by the opt-out stage at a later date. Users are still able to switch to the classic Outlook during these phases. Eventually, Outlook will move into the cut-over stage where users are no longer able to switch to the classic Outlook. Read more on the different phases from Microsoft here.
Additionally, the new Outlook no longer supports COM and VSTO add-ins. For more information, read more on the add-ins overview from Microsoft here.
To continue using Synergy Office Integration (SOI) in the new Outlook, you will need to register for an application ID with Microsoft Azure, which will also generate the directory (tenant) ID and client secret that will be used by SOI for the new Outlook.
The following enhancements have been introduced to allow SOI to work with the new Outlook:
Office Add-in Configurator
A new Office Add-in Configurator tool has been introduced for users to generate an SOI manifest (.xml) file for use in Microsoft 365 Admin centre.

HRM: Settings
SOI for the new Outlook requires Application ID, Tenant ID and Client Secret values. These can be found in HRM: Settings, under the Server section. The same email setting is used for the SMTP functionality of Exchange Online (with additional API permissions).
