Maintaining variant structures

Introduction

A variant structure is the set of relationships between one item and one or more variant items. Within the variant structure, groups such as Mandatory, One Of Set, At Least One, One Or None, or Optional are used to specify the relationship between the main item and each variant item. With variant items linked to an item, you are able to determine which optional items in a sales order should or should not be delivered. Mandatory items in the variant structure are filled in automatically. For example, you sell bicycles. There are a number of extra features that can be delivered along with the bike itself, such as a bicycle gear, basket, baby seat, guarantee, etc. In the sales order, you can specify which of these optional items the customer wants. You can create and maintain a variant structure by going to Manufacturing/Setup/Variant.  

Description

You can filter the variant structure that you want to display. To search for variant structures, you need to define one or more of the following criteria and click Search. The variant structures that match the search criteria you have entered are then displayed.

Search

Click Search to search for entries based on the defined criteria.

Clear

Click Clear to clear the defined criteria.

Rows

Type the number of rows to be displayed for each page. If you have set the default number of rows to 10, then 10 rows will be displayed. Therefore, if you have more than 10 rows listed, the Previous and Next buttons become available.

Previous

Click Previous to return to the previous page.

Next

Click Next to display the next page.

Filter

Select the required option to filter the search that starts with or contains a certain letter or word.

Item code

Type a full or partial item code to search for the items that are linked to the variant items.

Description

Type a full or partial description to search for the items, which are linked to the variant items that match the description.

After defining the search criteria, click Search to display the search results.

Note: It is possible that not all columns in this example are displayed. You can add or delete columns as required. For detailed instructions on how to customize displayed columns, see Related documents: Inserting and deleting columns.

Buttons

Replace

Click Replace to replace a variant item within the variant structure.

Add

Click Add to add a variant item to an existing variant structure. You can specify a group for that item in the variant structure such as Mandatory, One Of Set, At Least One, One Or None, or Optional.

Delete

Click Delete to delete the existing variant structure.

Open

Click Open to view or modify the existing variant structure.

New

Click New to create a new variant structure.

Close

Click Close to exit.
