E-WMS scanner settings - Stock inventory (counts)

WMS documentation

Introduction

This document describes the scanner settings for E-WMS Stock Inventory (Counts), in menu System, E-WMS, Scanners, Stock inventory settings.

Description

Once scanner settings are defined, these need to be assigned to each device in menu System, E-WMS, Scanners, Scanners. You can use one general settings profile for all devices, or you can set up specific profiles per individual device. Please also read document General notes on scanner settings.

After selecting menu System, E-WMS, Scanners, Stock inventory settings you can create a new profile by pressing New, or edit an existing profile by using Open. You can only delete profiles which are not linked to devices.

You can jump directly to a specific section:

Section: Submenu

These settings are available from product update 408. You can enable or disable one or more of the Inventory submenus on the scanner. If more than one submenu is enabled, these submenus will first show on the scanner after selecting main menu 'Inventory'. When only one of these submenus is enabled, this submenu will be immediately started when choosing main menu 'Inventory'.

When all submenus are disabled, you will see error message 'Please select at least one of the options in section 'submenu''.
Option 'Guided count' is not available for E-WMS Lite.

Section: General

Browse order lines
ASP and Guided Inventory only. When enabled, a list of item lines (advice lines) to count will be shown first, when starting counts. You have to select a specific line from that list to start. This way you can start with another item than otherwise default would be started with. The 'order' line browser only shows once, after selecting the count. When the selected item is picked, the first open line will automatically be presented after that. From product update 404, the order line browser is also shown when using the STOP button and choosing 'Skip advice line for now'.

When disabled, the first advice line (and logically, the first location to visit) will be opened automatically after starting counts.

Show picked lines
ASP only. When enabled, a list of the counted items (total per location per item) shows after completing the count.

Show stock button (in previous releases this setting was named 'RF: browse stock')
ASP and CAB RF. Determines whether the hand terminal user is allowed to view item stock on the hand terminal. For Stock Transactions receipts and Inventory (because in these processes the item is scanned after the location has been scanned), this setting also determines what items are visible when pressing the browse button when an item has to be scanned or entered. When disabled, the user will see all items (master data). When enabled, the user will only see items currently on stock on the scanned location.

Focus to
ASP only. After counting one item, it can be more efficient to return to either the 'location' field or to the 'item code' field (on the same location).

  • Item code: after you finished counting an item, the input returns to 'item code', on the same location as before.
  • Location: after you finished counting an item, the input returns to 'location'.

When scanning serial/batch items, the focus always first returns to input of the 'S/B number' after completing a scan. When pressing the STOP button on input of the S/B number, then this setting is applied.

Screen layout
ASP and WMSclient only. Please read this section for more information on 'screen layout'.

Section: Bar code

Scanning combination
Please read this document for more details on 'scanning combination'.

Dividing character
Please read this document for more details on 'scanning combination' and 'dividing character'..

Use EAN128
ASP and CAB. When enabled, EAN128 decoding will be started for any scanned value. Disable this setting when you do not use EAN128 bar codes.
Please also read: how to activate EAN128 barcode scanning in WMS ASP and in WMS CAB.

Focus to next field
ASP only. Please read this document for more information on this setting. This setting is available in this screen from release 409, in earlier releases this was a general scanner setting.

Show barcode summary
Available from product update 404 (ASP and for WMS client only). When enabled, a summary screen will show (in which you have to press Enter or OK) after a scan, when otherwise you would have moved to the next transaction screen immediately.  This way you still have a confirmation of what you scanned, before the next scan screen is shown. Typically, this will be the case when you have disabled the setting 'Focus to next field' and scanning a SKU number, or an EAN128 or HIBC bar code.
Please also see this document for more information on this setting.

Section: Warehouse

These settings are used in non-guided counts in WMS ASP or CAB.  In WMS ASP guided or non-guided counts, it is always validated if for the 'scanned' warehouse, location or item, a count range was created. This is to avoid counting locations or items which would be rejected as 'out of range', when reading back.

Default value
You can configure a default warehouse, or leave this value empty.

Display which value?
This setting determines how the 'warehouse' field is prefilled on the hand terminal:

  • Default value: prefills the 'default value' on the hand terminal, but the warehouse can still be changed during the count.
  • Never: prefills the 'default warehouse' and skips input on the hand terminal.
  • Empty: the warehouse will be empty on the hand terminal, and the user has to enter a warehouse.

Section: Location

These settings are used in ASP and CAB, and applied when the use of warehouse locations in enabled.

Default value
You can configure a default warehouse location, or leave this value empty.

Display which value?
This setting determines how the 'location' field is prefilled on the hand terminal:

  • Default value: prefills the value from 'default value' on the hand terminal, but the location can still be changed during the count.
  • Never: prefills the 'default value' and skips input on the hand terminal.
  • Empty: the location will be empty on the hand terminal, and the user has to scan a warehouse location (only on first scan, in a next scan the last used location will be prefilled)

Section: Item

Default value
ASP and CAB. You can configure a default item code, this item code will be prefilled on the hand terminal and can be changed. When using ASP guided counts, this setting should be left empty.

Section: SKU

Auto. SKU label screen
ASP and SKU Management only. This setting determines whether the SKU label print screen will show automatically when counting a SKU item and no labels were printed yet for that item for that count. When disabled or enabled, you are still able to print extra labels using the SKU label print button on the hand terminal.

Use external SKU nrs
ASP only, available from 405 and applies to E-WMS SKU Management. You can read more about external SKU numbers in this document. When enabled, you can scan external SKU numbers without having to generate SKU numbers and print labels during the count. When disabled (default), you will have to generate SKU numbers and print labels from the hand terminal, during the count.

Section: Quantity

Default quantity
ASP and CAB. You can configure a default quantity, in combination with the setting 'Display which value?' this can be prefilled on the hand terminal. The default value is 1 (from product update 405, the default value is 0). Change this value to 0 if you want to avoid just pressing 'Enter' in the process too quickly (and counting quantity 1).

The quantity field on the hand terminal will be prefilled with this value, when the quantity is not prefilled from a scan like an EAN128 bar code. The default value is 0.

Minimum quantity
ASP and CAB. This setting determines the minimum quantity allowed to enter on the hand terminal. This setting is intended to avoid errors on the hand terminal.

Maximum quantity
ASP and CAB. This setting determines the maximum quantity allowed to enter on the hand terminal. This setting is intended to avoid errors on the hand terminal, like scanning the item code in the quantity field by mistake.

Display which value?
ASP (partly) and CAB. Determines how the field 'quantity' will be prefilled:

  • Default value: prefills the quantity defined at 'Default quantity', when the quantity is not prefilled from a scan like an EAN128 bar code or a SKU.
  • Never:  applies the 'default quantity' and skips input of the quantity field. This specific setting is not implemented in WMS ASP (works only in CAB).
  • Empty: prefills the quantity field with zero (0), the employee must enter the quantity. When scanning a SKU or EAN128 or HIBC bar code, the quantity can still be prefilled if the quantity was known from that bar code.

Section: date registration

These settings determine what serial/batch dates will be registered on the scanners. Please read this document for more information on serial/batch date registration.

Section: Lot number
In this section you can enable the lot number functionality for this WMS process. The lot number functionality can be enabled for serial and/or batch items for the following WMS processes:

  • Receipt registration
  • Stock inventory
  • Stock transactions
  • Production Receipts

and is supported for the following actions:

  • Receiving a serial or batch item with a lot number.
  • Performing a stock transaction with a serial or batch item and a lot number.
  • Auto-receiving a serial or batch item with a lot number.
  • Receiving a serial or batch item with a lot number using GS-128.
  • Performing a count for a serial or batch item with a lot number.
  • Performing a production receipt for a serial or batch item with a lot number.
  • Receiving a serial or batch item with a lot number with scanner settings disabled.
  • Printing serial or batch numbers with a serial or batch item with a lot number.
  • Auto-receiving a serial or batch item with a lot number with SKU.

Lot number for batch items
Enable this option if you want to use the lot number functionality for batch items for the inventory process.

Lot number for serial items
Enable this option if you want to use the lot number functionality for serial items for the inventory process.

Section: Activesync

These settings only apply when using the E-WMS CAB client without RF, so when you have to connect to a PC (cradle) to communicate with an E-WMS Control Center. In those cases it may not always be possible or desired to have item master data available on the hand terminal.

Serial/batch
This setting determines how to handle input of the serial/batch number in general. When validation of item codes was disabled and there is no item master data on the hand terminal, it can not be determined if an item is a serial/batch item or not. Using this setting, you can still configure if you want to enter serial/batch number while scanning counts, using following choices:

  • Normal (default value): serial/batch number entry is disabled (you never scan serial/batch items)
  • Serial: assumes you are always count serial number items (entry of serial number per single unit, but can be left empty)
  • Batch: assumes you are always count batch items (entry of batch number, but can be left empty)

Validate item code
This setting determines if you want to validate a scanned item code (or scan code) during the count, or only after reading back.  When disabled, any item code (not: scan codes) can be scanned during the count (existing or not), this also means you do not have to export item master data to the hand terminals. After reading back counts, the item code is still validated (but then scan codes are not converted to item codes).  When enabled, the scanned item code or scan code is validated on the hand terminal, using the master data previously exported to the hand terminal (menu WMS, Send, Send item data).

Browse items

This setting determines if the warehouse employee is able to browse in item master data, thus able to select an item from the list (based on local master data on the hand terminal), instead of scanning an item code.
