Defining Norm Values of Competences for Job Groups, Job Activities, Job Titles, Projects, and Vacancies

Introduction

A competency profile for a job group, job activity, job title, project, or vacancy is a template consisting of a set of competences.

You can define the norm values of the competences for a job group, job activity, or job title to reflect the acceptable requirements that are needed by the employees to perform the job as specified in the job group, job activity, or job title. You can use the norm values as a comparison with the ratings assigned to the competency profile of an applicant or employee. It will then serve as the basis to decide if the applicant or employee is competent to perform the job.

You can also define the norm values of the competences for a project to specify the requirements that are needed by the employees to be involved in the particular project. Besides that, norm values of competences for a vacancy can be defined to specify the requirements that are needed by an applicant to fulfill the vacancy.

Norm values cannot be set for competences that are linked to a field type with type other than Value. For more information on field types, see Creating and Modifying Field Types for Competences, Performance Reviews, and Target Agreements of Employees.

Menu path

  • To define the norm values of competences for job groups, go to HRM/Setup/General/Job groups, click the description of the job group under the Job group column, and click Competency. Click the description of the competency profile under the Description column and then click Norm value.
  • To define the norm values of competences for job activities, go to HRM/Setup/General/Job activities, click the description of the job activity under the Job activity column, and click Competency. Click the description of the competency profile under the Description column and then click Norm value.
  • To define the norm values of competences for job titles, go to HRM/Setup/General/Job titles, define the job level, and click Show. Click the description of the job title under the Job title column, click Competency, and then click the description of the competency profile under the Description column. Then, click Norm value.
  • To define the norm values of competences for projects, go to Project/Reports/Search/Projects, define the relevant criteria, and click Show. Click the project code under the Project column, click Competency in the Monitor section, and then click the description of the competency profile under the Description column. Then, click Norm value.
  • To define the norm values of competences for vacancies, go to HRM/Reports/People/Vacancies, define the relevant criteria, and click Show. Click the ID of the vacancy under the ID column, click Competency, and then click the description of the competency profile under the Description column. Click Review and finally click Edit.

Roles & rights

  • To define and modify the norm values of competences for job groups, job activities, job titles, projects, or vacancies, function right 508 – Maintain payroll components is required. Users with the HR role have this function right.
  • To view the norm values of competences for job groups, job activities, job titles, or projects, or vacancies, function right 505 – View payroll components is required. Users with the HR role have this function right.

For more details on what you can do with function rights or levels, go to System/Setup/Security/Function rights, select the required module, and then click on the relevant ID. To find out the functions you can perform with a particular role, go to System/Setup/Security/Roles, type in the description, click Refresh, and then click the required link under the Role column.

Description

Criteria section

The following is an example of a screen displayed if you are defining norm values for a job group, job activity, job title, or project:

Job group / Job activity / Job title / Project

This displays the code of the job group, job activity, job title, or project, depending on the competency profile that you are defining the norm values for.

Description

This displays the description of the job group, job activity, job title, or project.

The following is an example of a screen displayed if you are defining norm values for a vacancy:

Vacancy

This displays the name and division code of the vacancy.

Reference date

This displays the start date of the profile.

Competency section

This displays the set of competences defined for the job group, job activity, job title, project, or vacancy. You can define the norm values by selecting the relevant ratings.
