Introduction
The Measurement calculations module is a building block for
companies that trade in items with variable properties, such as wood, steel, or
glass products. Due to the flexibility of the system, this module also makes it
possible to work with properties other than dimensions, such as quality.
With the Measurement calculations module, during the entry
of logistics transactions, the numbers of items with variable properties can be
entered using a self-definable formula, a so-called measurement calculation. A
maximum of six entry fields for properties can be defined per measurement
calculation. For each entry field, it is indicated how the entry takes place in
the screen and which name should be displayed in the screen. This name can be “Length”,
“Width”, or “Height”; it can also be “Wheelbarrows” or “Sandbags”. The
different properties can be added together, subtracted from each other,
multiplied with each other, and/or divided by each other. In addition to the
six entry fields for properties, six more free fields can be defined; three
text fields, a date field, and two Yes/No fields.
A measurement calculation can be linked to multiple items. Additionally, you
can also link multiple measurement calculations to one item.
The fields and options for maintaining items with SE5121
Measurement calculations in your license are largely the same as when SE5121
Measurement calculations is not available in your license. This document
therefore only discusses the deviating cases. A description of the other fields
can be found in the document for creating
and maintaining items.
What version are you using?
The information in this document is applicable to product
update 418 and higher. If you have versions lower than this, certain features
explained here will not be applicable.
How do I maintain the measurement calculation data at the item maintenance?
- In
the Order/Items/Maintain screen, select the item from which you want to
edit the measurement calculation formula.
- Click
Open.
- Click
Measurement calculations.
- Make
the required changes (change category, link or unlink measurement calculation
formulas).
- Click
Save. For more information on creating and maintaining measurement
calculations, see Creating
and maintaining measurement calculations.
Extra tab - at the item maintenance
If you have selected Database field at the Type
field in the Basics tab when maintaining the measurement calculation,
then you can select a number of values at the Values field. These values
refer to the fields that you can define for the item maintenance. In this way,
standard values for the length of a shelf, for example, can be maintained for
the items.

The measurement calculation data at the item maintenance
Click the Measurement calculations button to view and
maintain the measurement calculations for this item. In a new screen, you can
view or edit the following data:
Item/Description
The item and the item description from which you have opened
this screen are displayed. This cannot be edited.
Category
Define the categories to which the measurement calculations
apply. If you select only the Sales orders category, you can only select
this measurement calculation for transactions that fall within the sales orders
category. For example, the measurement calculation cannot be selected when
entering a production order.
When you hover the mouse over the category, the menu paths to
which the relevant category applies will be displayed.
Note: As certain actions can be started from multiple
menu paths, the category is important for the combination of the menu path and
the action.
For example, you can also deliver a production order via the
menu path Order ?
Entries ? Fulfilment.
In this case, if you have selected the Production orders category
instead of the Sales orders category, it does not matter through which
menu path you deliver the production order.
The following table shows an overview of the relations
between categories and the respective menu paths and actions.

The Sales orders and Purchase order categories are automatically selected
when a formula or measurement calculation is linked to an item.
Link section
The Link section shows the measurement calculations
that are linked to this item. You can link multiple measurement calculations to
an item. The formula that is linked first is the standard formula used for this
item. This is indicated by the green check mark in the Default column.
If you want to make another measure calculation the default, you can
double-click the relevant calculation. The default check mark is then displayed
for that line and cleared from the current line.
This section also allows you to remove the formulas from the
item and add a new formula.
Add
Click this to add a new measurement calculation to the item.
In a selection screen, you can select the desired measurement calculation, and
then add it to the item by clicking the Select button. You can also
create new measurement calculations from the selection screen.
Delete
Click this to remove the selected measurement calculation
from the item. When deleting, the link between the measurement calculation and
the item is canceled. The measurement calculation will still be available when
maintaining the measurement calculations.
Save
Click this to save the changes.
Close
