PU 500: Removing browser dependency

Exact Synergy Enterprise (ESE) had previously relied heavily on Internet Explorer for some functionalities to work properly. We understand that this may not be relevant anymore and we have opted to improve ESE so that we remove dependency of our functionalities from any specific browser. In this update, we have made it possible so that our functionalities continue to work in any browser you have installed in your computer.

This update improves the following functionalities:

• You can send Accounts, Contact, Item, Asset, Person, Project, and Request pages via email by clicking ALT J: Send E-mail or the   icon as before. The difference now is a generic pop-up will be displayed. However, this can only be done when the following prerequisites are fulfilled:
  • On the Modules > HRM > Setup > General > Settings page, under the Server section, SMTP has to be selected at E-mail field and the Server and Port fields must be filled with the relevant SMTP server that allows sending of emails. Only a user with function right 88 - Maintain HRM settings can make this change.
  • You must have a valid email address in your Person card.
  • For customers or resellers, a default sender e-mail address must be specified. This is dependent on the email specified. For customers, go to Customers > Setup > Other > Settings and check under the E-mail section that the Sender (Default) field is filled. For resellers, go to Modules > HRM > Setup > Organisation > Divisions, search for a division and check under the Address section that the E-mail field is filled.
• When modifying quotations at Modules > Customers > Reports > Quotations > Search, the Open in MS Word button is no longer available. The Generate Quotation button that uses Exact's Word Merge feature can be used instead. In line with this, the New Word Merge field under the Word Merge section on the Documents: Settings page is selected by default. This effectively encourages you to use the more powerful Word Merge feature. You can still disable this option if you want. • For the Service Management module, you can now preview service requests and service contracts in any internet browser before printing them out.
